Militan

Kata militan merujuk kepada orang atau kelompok orang-orang yang ikut serta dalam suatu pertempuran fisik/verbal yang agresif, biasanya dikarenakan suatu penyebab. Jurnalis seringkali mempergunakan kata miiltan sebagai istilan netral untuk prajurit yang tidak termasuk di dalam suatu organisasi militer. Secara khusus, seorang yang militan turut serta dalam tindak kekerasan sebagai bagian dari alasan memperjuangkan suatu tujuan politis.

Secara populer, kata "militan" seringkali disamaartikan dengan teroris, walaupun mungkin dengan karakteristik yang lebih lemah. Istilah "negara militan" dalam bahasa sehari-hari merujuk kepada suatu negara yang memiliki sikap agresif dalam mendukung sebuah ideologi atau perkara. Dalam bahasa Perancis, istilah "militan" memiliki makna yang lebih lunak yang berarti "aktivis".
